Sidelined

The average human being

Lives his life

On the sidelines.

And because he lives

On the sidelines

He remains for his entire life . . .

Sidelined.

He spends his life

On the outside, looking in.

He spends his life

As one of the Many.

Instead of

One of the Few.

He is in every conceivable way,

Marginalized,

Reduced,

And trivialized.

He is,

Particularly in the most essential things,

A Have-Not.

He may view this

As his fate.

So be it.

He may view this

As his destiny.

So be it.

Society and the world

Blows smoke into his ears.

It whispers lofty and romantic notions to him.

None of which

Ever come to pass.

Positive thinking,

Pie-in-the-sky,

Pick-me-ups,

Rah-rah’s,

Believe-in-yourself

And you-can-do-it’s.

This is all he has.

Empty words

And bumper stickers.

Inside himself

He knows these things are all lies.

Because his living reality

Is nothing like what the bumper stickers promise.

Society and the world

Never tell him The Truth.

In all his life

He never comes to Know.

In all his life

He never comes to Have.

The ship passes him by.

Time passes him by.

Life passes him by.

Are great things possible?

Yes,

But not for him.

This is the life

Of the average man.

This is the life

Of the common man.

The is the life

Of the garden variety man.

He lives and dies,

Sidelined.

Because it is acceptable to him

To be Sidelined.

Namaste.
