In This Life
In this life
You will experience suffering.
A suffering so intense
You will find it difficult to lift your eyes.
In this life
You will do what you can.
Some things that you do
Are things for which you will never be forgiven.
Some things you do
Will be things for which you will always be remembered.
And you will likely never come to know
Which is which.
In this life
Those around you will say a thing
That will shatter your heart into pieces.
It may have been said directly to you
Or to one who is close to you.
In this life
You will be in a state of peace and comfort.
When suddenly an event from the past
Will appear in your memory.
And the pain of that event
Will stop you in your tracks.
In this life
You will move through times of extreme ignorance.
During these times
Your ignorance will convince you
That you are correct.
In this life
You will be insulted by a stranger,
Shunned by a friend,
And ignored by a family member.
In these times
You will blame yourself.
In this life
You will experience times of joy
And success.
You will also experience times of sorrow
And failure.
Both of these times
Will feel like they will last forever.
In this life
You will view your relationships
In a different way
Than you did long ago.
In some ways
They may mean less to you.
In some ways,
More.
In this life
You will not know
What to do
Or which way to go.
And you will grasp at every advice
In order to find direction.
This advice
Will almost always
Lead you in a direction
That turned out not to be ideal.
In this life
You will begin to question
Whether you truly know anyone at all.
For the one you thought you knew
Would not say or do
What they said or did.
In this life
Perhaps you may come to realize
That you never knew life
At all.
Namaste.
