The Unwanted Human
There are many effects
That the world has
Upon the human.
One such effect
Is the following.
A human gives his life
To some people,
Be it his children and family,
Or others . . .
And he finds over the ensuing years
That they are largely indifferent,
Unappreciative,
And even resentful
Against him.
He did not do it
For expectation.
He did not do it
For a return.
But, after all,
He is a human.
And while he is certainly imperfect,
And has certainly made his share of mistakes,
The punishment seems to grossly and egregiously
Outweigh the crime.
For years and decades,
The human blames himself.
And second-guesses himself.
And gives the benefit of the doubt
On one occasion
After another
After another
And another . . .
But the acknowledgment
That he did anything at all
Never appears.
It would appear to a bystander
That the more this man does for another,
The more he suffers.
Despite the lovely words,
And despite the hope that he placed in them,
The bumper stickers
Turned out to be just that.
The “do for others” thing
Quite frankly . . . ruined his life.
For if he had been dismissive
And callous
And non-giving at all,
He could with relative ease
Accept his fate.
But to accept such a fate
Having done the opposite,
Is as inhumane
As the fate itself.
The spiritualist
Will come calling
With his incense
And flowery talk.
Telling the human
To do
Without expectation.
But the human truly did not do
With expectation.
It is one thing
Not to receive acknowledgment
For good deeds done with sincerity.
It is another
To be blamed and resented
For having done them.
The spiritualist may keep shouting
His flowery phrases.
He need only be punched in the face
Repeatedly
Until he develops a frown,
And a snarl,
And reacts in self-defense.
When he frowns,
Snarls,
And reacts in self-defense,
He need only be asked,
“Why are you frowning, snarling and fighting back? Did you give me your advice with the ‘expectation‘ that I should be nice?”
The human
Did not have any choice
To give his life
To those he gave it to.
He had no choice
But to give them everything he had.
He had no choice
But to have concern
And to think of them
Day and night.
It was simply
Not a choice.
He did not have expectation.
He did not do it to get something
In return.
But,
He is a human, after all.
And while he did not have expectation
Or hope
For a return,
He also did not have expectation
Or hope
To be blamed and resented,
And tossed aside.
He did not expect
To end up
Unwanted.
As no sane
Or reasonable human
Would.
What is such a human
To do?
Where is he to go
From here?
Anything that he is told to do
Or to practice
Or to engage in, in order to take away his suffering
Is an outright insult.
For it diminishes
And minimizes
The weight of his suffering.
Prescriptions
Are a spit in the face.
What the human is experiencing
Is a direct look
At life.
A direct look
At the ways of the world.
A direct look
At how people are.
A direct look
At what may or may not happen
From giving.
Did the human do anything wrong?
Every human does things wrong.
Every human makes mistakes.
But his giving
Was giving.
And, one could argue,
From this all too common scenario
That he was never forgiven
For having given.
It is all about learning The Truth.
The Truth about what may or may not happen
Despite the nobility of one’s intentions.
The Truth
About what life is
And is not.
The Truth
About what people are
And are not.
The Truth
Is the only Real path.
The only path
Away from being blindsided.
The only path
Away from suffering.
All else,
From spirituality, prescription, and self-help
Is entertainment
And lies.
Such things
Can only lead
To greater and greater suffering.
The Truth
Is the only thing
That provides the opportunity
To truly Live.
The Truth
Is the only thing
That allows an opportunity
For Freedom.
