He Who Attempts To Help You Is Your Enemy
What the world is doing
Is what the world has always done.
The structure
And the dynamics
Have not changed.
They have only intensified.
There are the speakers
And the listeners.
The teachers
And the students.
The “thought leaders”
And the followers.
The guru’s
And the disciples.
The speakers,
Teachers,
“Thought leaders,”
And guru’s . . .
Are attempting to “help” . . .
The listeners,
The students,
The followers,
And the disciples.
The former
Are the “helpers.”
The latter
Are the “helpees.”
The helpers
Spout their hacks,
Methods,
Prescriptions,
Techniques,
5-steps to happiness,
6-steps to compassion,
3-steps to good health.
The helpers
Spout their green tea
Mixed with blue tea
With a touch of lemon warmed to 78 degrees
And 3.7 drops of honey.
The helpers
Spout their book recommendations.
About greek philosophers,
And stoics,
And intellectual and important-sounding names.
They furl their eyebrows
And massage their face into a stiff and lifeless state
So as to appear . . .
“Stoic.”
The helpers
Spout their “mental models,”
And “first order principles,”
And “ninth order this and that,’
The more smart and didactic and intellectual-sounding,
The more proud they are to spout it.
The helpers say,
Do this morning routine.
Do that exercise.
Eat this.
Drink that.
Don’t do this before 8pm.
Don’t do that before 7am.
Practice this.
Rehearse that . . .
The helpers
Have podcasts with each other.
They team up to provide
Super-charged prescriptions.
The helpers have always said,
Do this
And you will feel better.
Do that
And you will get this.
Here is what you do:
You take this and that,
Combine it on the night of a full moon
And quack like a duck 17 times
And voila . . .
You will be . . . “happy.”
Or “more healthy.”
Or “more self-actualized.’
Or “optimized.”
Or “more in flowwwwww.”
The helpees
Have always been
Helpees.
The helpers
Are actually helpees
To their own helpers.
The helpees
Will listen to anything
So long as the helper
Has a large following,
And “famous” guests on his podcast.
They will read his book recommendations.
They will ingest the precisely-warmed lemon drops.
They will howl at the moon at midnight.
They will jump into an ice bath at the crack of dawn.
They will improve their “morning routines.”
They will get a rolling pin to flatten their face into a “stoic” appearance.
The helpees say,
“Yes sir. Since you are the helper, I will do everything you say. Keep the prescriptions coming.”
In this way,
The helpee feels somewhat good about himself.
He feels good
That at least he is “doing something.”
He is getting “more spiritual.”
He is “improving himself.”
His blood chemistry is “getting better.”
His chakras are getting opened.
His meditation sessions are getting longer.
He is making
The helpers “proud.”
Yet after he has warm-lemon-dropped himself,
And howled at the moon on 26 consecutive nights as prescribed,
And chakra’d himself,
And meditated longer,
And morning routine’d himself,
And read all the helper’s book recommendations,
And 5-stepped himself,
And 3-stepped himself,
And 6-stepped himself,
And “stoicized” himself . . .
Why does he still need . . . help?
If these things worked,
Then why is he still chasing happiness,
And peace,
And freedom,
Decades later?
And why is the helper
Still chasing them also?
Does the helper truly mean to say
That all the warm-lemon-dropping
And howling,
And meditating,
And ice-bathing,
And stoicizing,
Was not enough?
What is The Truth?
Such things are done
For typically noble intentions.
But the helper
And the helpee
Are both victims
Of prescription.
The one who is deeply interested
In “helping,”
Is actually interested
In “teaching”
And wanting an audience,
And wanting to be heard.
It is all
An ego game.
And for the game
To provide juice,
There must be an audience
To prescribe to.
Understand this:
Would nature truly create a man
That is so incomplete,
That it leaves the completion
To other people?
Is nature so incompetent
As to create a man so broken and fragmented,
That he needs warm-lemon-dropping,
And howling,
And meditating,
And ice-bathing,
And morning-routining,
And book reading,
And guru listening,
And prescription following,
To become whole?
The world
Is a circus.
People are chasers,
Looking for a place to park their brains.
Helpers,
By way of their prescriptions,
Extend the ignorance and suffering
Of human beings.
In pursuit
Of their own ego gratification.
The Truth
Is the only thing there is.
And it has no use
For helpers
Or helpees.
Namaste.
